This graphism represents the match between 2 simple graph trees, like used by decision. Simple tree they are only 2 levels and 2 options. Levels can be events or criteria anything with 2 values, eventually 2 limits (what you want and what you do not want). 2 options may be of the same sort of levels but it is more common that they are different dimensions; Say the first like time and the second like option given by the space: stay there or go over there.
After this 2 x 2 you have so 4 issues. Like if being at the present you review what sequence and past let you. One tree is just half of the picture, the other half is to help examine what if a reverse or flip-flop. Like when wanting to examine the continuity of issues; being with the same or one they could approach in a different way. So picture with 4 branches articulating regularly issues without problem with continuity.
